 · Very much a mixed bag, The Larry Carlton Collection, Vol. 2 would hardly be an ideal introduction to his work. Newcomers would do well to skip this CD in favor of 's Last Nite or 's On Solid Ground.

 ·  · Gift. Although Larry Carlton 's output during the '70s and '80s could be classified as commercial, there were occasional moments of brilliance sprinkled throughout. That is not the case with this session, which stands as his most commercial and forgettable to date. "Ridin' the Treasure" and "Shop Till You Drop" both found their way into Muzak.

  1. out of 5 stars. Pleasant and rewarding album. Reviewed in the United States on Aug. Ridin ' the treasure finds to Larry in a special mood that reminds us to Bela Fleck Goin ' nowhere is a fresh smooth piece. The most treasured songs in this album are The Gift and Shop 'till you drop/5(11).

  2. Carlton out does himself with great acoustic and electric guitar playing. Joined by studio veterans Greg Bissonette on drums, Larry Kimpel on bass, Rick Jackson on keyboards and jazz great Kirk Whalum on saxophone, Carlton and company put together 10 amazing tracks. The former studio wiz plays fluently and skillfully on this release/5(11).
